Vegetable Update:

September has certainly made it feel like Fall is trying to come in uninvited. Low evening temps have us closing the greenhouses and polytunnels for the first time this year but with a forecast week of high temps coming in, the plants in the fields are getting the message that the end of the summer growing season is coming quickly. We are looking forward to a month of furious growth before they're done for the year.

Summer veggie favorites - like eggplant and zucchini - wrapped up last week and now we're in the process of pulling out crop residue and getting the last of the fall crops planted. Broccoli, cabbages and cauliflower are in their new homes and enjoying our heat wave.

On the farm we are getting ready for the season change by replacing the old, often-patched poly on our tomato and dahlia tunnel with new poly covering this week. Stay tuned for pictures of that project! It'll be nice to not have to worry about the snow load tearing through that tunnel this winter.

For those of you who have visited our farm Stand on Fridays or who are members of our CSA, you've had the chance to enjoy our hard fought for sweet corn and the last harvest of that crop will be picked at the end of this week. Other than the whole Coyote Corn Raider Debacle of  '23, it was a successful crop and we will be looking and planning on a larger, more fortified planting for next year.  Stay tuned for winter squash, sweet potatoes and yams coming out of the fields this month, just in time for yummy fall soups and curries. If you haven’t had a chance to visit the farm stand yet, this is your chance! The season will not last forever so come on down to 143 Amenia Union Road, Fridays 1-6PM (also open the first and third Saturdays of the month, next Saturday farm stand is 9/16 and you won’t want to miss it!) See you soon.

Real Organic Project Certification

Maitri Farm has taken organic certification one step further; our produce is now certified by the Real Organic Project. This is an even higher standard of organic growing than the USDA organic certification because here, crops are required to be grown in healthy, biologically active soil that is tested and inspected. No hydroponic growing, strict standards for growing practices, and the integrity of healthy, sustainable food that the organic label was intended to ensure.

Maitri Farm featured in the NY Times!

Maitri Farm has been mentioned in the New York Times article titled ‘Savoring Summer’s End at 5 Country Getaways’ as a special contributor that makes Troutbeck Hotel a special place to stay in Upstate NY. We are so glad our beautiful flowers and superb vegetables available at Troutbeck are NY Times noteworthy! Check it out here

on that note… Please Write us a Review!

Hello neighbors, writing here to politely ask that if you enjoy our beautiful vegetables and flowers, please consider writing us a positive review on Google. As a small farm operation we rely on good karma and good business practices to keep us afloat and in the digital age, a 5 star review goes a long way! We would be so grateful if you took the time to say a few nice things about us so that anyone who looks us up knows what we are all about. Thanks in advance! You can write a review through Google here .

Just sharing some lovely pics of stunning dahlias that are blooming in all their glory on the farm right now. Come see them for yourself IRL at the farmstand, Fridays 1-6 PM!

Ask a Farmer:

One of the wonderful things about working on a farm is the knowledge of how to care for the land and the plants that grow here. We believe strongly in sharing this knowledge with you and would like to encourage everyone receiving this newsletter to write in with questions for us. These questions can range anywhere from best practices for planting herbs to fertilization to watering and more. We are going to include questions and answers on a designated segment of our website so that everyone can see what is being asked and the information that might be helpful to them. Please email info@maitriny.com to submit questions to us.

We love hearing from you!
