May Madness
This month has been incredibly busy on the farm! Not only are we working hard to get the ground ready and crops planted but we’re also busy getting our perennial fields weeded and fed in anticipation of starting our peony harvest in another week. Here's a rundown of everything happening:
Flower Sales
We've seen a significant increase in wholesale flower sales, keeping our team on their toes fulfilling orders and making deliveries. Since we have such a small team, everyone has been helping out as they can - Britt and Claire are the rock stars crafting these lovely bundles and Cody and Logan, who are normally on the tractors or in the barns keeping things running, have been making deliveries. Starting this weekend we will have fabulous hand crafted bouquets available for purchase here at our farm stand but you can now find our flowers back at Big Rock Market and starting this weekend at Cornwall Market as well.
Team Expansion
This past week we've welcomed the first of our Work/Trade volunteers to the farm (hi Michael!) and a new crew member to the team. Be sure to say hello to Kyle when you see him here on the farm. We also have a team member, Bonnita, who is returning to the farm for the summer season and we all are looking forward to having her steady presence back.
First Farm Event of the Season
Our first event of the season, the Tomato trellis workshop, was a success, drawing a great crowd. There were nearly 100 tomatoes transplanted on Saturday and everyone did a great job pruning and asking lots of good questions. Many thanks to all of you who were able to join us after I was forced to reschedule it when I got sick. I really appreciated knowing that everyone was still so enthusiastic after the delay. We're excited for more events throughout the season so be sure to check our events calendar for periodic updates.
Crop Updates
Our first vegetable crop of the season, our lovely purple asparagus is in season and we’ve been busy harvesting it for the local restaurants. This weekend we will have some available for purchase at the farm store. We also have an abundance of fresh herbs that will be available
Farm Store Seedling Inventory
The farm store has an incredible selection of vegetable and flower seedlings available for sale this month. These will include a variety of slicing, heirloom and cherry tomatoes; eggplant; sweet, hot and bell peppers; greens; onion and leek sets; edible flowers and herbs; plus, flower seedlings for your cutting garden. We will also have a selection of houseplants and ornamentals for your window sills.
